Taylor Swift Is Billboard’s Top Artist Of 2015

Taylor Swift is Billboard magazine’s Top Artist of 2015. The honor was announced on Wednesday in a post about the publication’s Year in Music issue. The magazine also awarded Swift with Album of the Year for her smash hit 1989.

Swift has now won Billboard’s Top Artist honor for the second time in her career, having first received the title in 2009. Adele is the only other woman to achieve that feat, with back-to-back wins in 2011 and 2012. In the past, Swift also won Billboard’s Album of the Year in 2009 for Fearless.

Although 1989 was released in October 2014, its success carried well into 2015. Swift had three number one singles on the U.S. Adult Top 40 charts in 2015 with “Bad Blood,” “Wildest Dreams” and “Style.” Last July, the album surpassed five million copies sold in the U.S., making it the fastest-selling album in more than 10 years.

Swift’s 1989 World Tour, which wraps up on December 12, has also been a smash success. It was reported in mid-October that the tour had grossed $173 million (and climbing). All 56 of her North American dates sold out, with several dates filling stadiums with more than 100,000 people.
